Gelato! What does gelato have to do with Sarah and Josh’s wedding? On a gloomy night last December Daniel and I went to get some coffee at Bella Gelato in Harrisonburg, coincidentally at the same time Sarah and Josh were there to do some wedding planning! Josh and Daniel hit it off fast with Marine Corps talk, and that’s when I learned that the two of them were there to try and get some wedding planning done before Josh had to leave again to go back to his training for the USMC.

You might know that Daniel and I actually met while he was in the middle of his own USMC training, and we dated through the rest of that process, so Sarah and Josh’s story pretty much immediately found itself a special place in my heart.

I couldn’t have been more elated when I got an email from Sarah (minutes after we left Bella’s) asking for more information about wedding photography, and I had absolutely no clue at that point just how special their wedding would be!

No one could have guessed that when everyone woke up on April 7th it would be SNOWING! That’s right, snow, in April! Which naturally required some plans to be moved around, but ultimately made for the most magical day. A few last-minute adjustments made sure that Sarah and Josh could be married in a warm barn, and after their ceremony everyone headed over to the reception where the fun continued. The only thing that made the day more amazing was that when it was time to go out for sunset portraits the snow had all melted, and it looked like the most gorgeous spring evening. Seriously though, what is more special than getting two seasons in one day?

The love you two have for each other is contagious and encouraging! Every part of your wedding was filled with the Spirit, and it was inspiring to see that expressed by both of you, and by your community. Every laugh, smile, and prayer that you shared throughout the day was an outward expression of a love for each other that is endless and rooted in grace. And it is my sincerest hope that those roots continue to bring you joy, make your marriage stronger, and keep being an inspiration for everyone who has the honor of being part of your lives.
